Code of Conduct for Caring for Children

The Catholic Church values children as an important part of its life and I, as Parish Priest of Our Lady Help of Christians Parish, Eltham, wish to create and maintain a safe and positive environment in which children flourish within our parish. To me it is of the utmost importance for their long term growth as a person proud, hopefully one day, to have been part of our Christian Community.

Consequently, as leader of this Christian Community, I make a commitment to follow ‘Integrity in Ministry’ which is a document of Principles and Standards for Catholic Clergy and Religious in Australia. I will also ensure that any other priest or religious who may be assigned to our Parish adheres to its behavioural standards.  I further commit to ensuring our parish’s policies and procedures are fully developed in accordance with the requirements of the Child Safe Standards as detailed by the Commission for Children and Young People and the Melbourne Archdiocese’s ‘May our children flourish – Code of Conduct for Caring for Children’.

Additionally, I expect all lay workers, either employed by the Parish or working as volunteers within the Parish, to commit to our Parish’s Child Safety Code of Conduct and Child Safe Policy which can be found on our website.
